1. The magical island of Hailuoto
The island of Hailuoto charms in every season! In winter, the ferry trip to the island through drifting ice is an exotic experience even for Finnish travelers. In Hailuoto, you can get into the Christmas spirit at the Christmas market, held in the courtyard of Vanha Pääkauppa and at Hailuoto Brewery on 13–14 December. The market is organized by the Hailuoto Society together with local entrepreneurs and artisans. The address is Luovontie 233.
Or how about spending the entire Christmas on the island, relaxing in the heart of winter nature? Pöllä cottage accommodation is a small, idyllic cottage village in Hailuoto. During Christmas, you can even have a Christmas tree delivered to your cottage on request.
Visitors to Hailuoto should also get to know Kujala Farm. During the Christmas season, atmospheric accommodation is available in the farm’s traditional granny cottage. You can also buy local food products as gifts for Santa’s sack!

In Raahe, the 19th-century restaurant–café and hotel Lang’s Trade House offers an enchanting setting for Christmas celebrations — including a delicious Christmas lunch to help you drift into the festive mood. The Trade House also features seven unique and beautifully decorated rooms in culturally and historically valuable buildings, all carefully restored in the heart of old Raahe, right by Pekkatori Square.
At Lang’s Shop and the neighbouring Utua store, you’ll find wonderful Christmas gifts: home textiles, natural cosmetics, and beautifully crafted leather and merino wool products.
Just a five-minute walk from Lang’s Trade House stands Sovelius House. In the upstairs interior museum, the Shipmaster’s Home, a traditional bourgeois Christmas will be on display from 9 to 15 December. Booking a guided tour in advance is highly recommended!

In the run-up to Christmas, Liminka hosts several Christmas concerts that invite visitors to enjoy the festive atmosphere at the Heikki Sarvela Hall. Some concerts are free of charge, while others require a ticket.
Liminka’s Christmas Opening will be held on Friday 22 November from 18:00 to 19:00 at the Liminka Market Square, offering cosy and cheerful activities for all ages.

Known for its iconic icebreaker and the SnowCastle, Kemi is a truly unique city — located in Lapland, yet right on the seashore. Christmas in Kemi is filled with unforgettable experiences:
Enjoy festive flavours at Restaurant Lumihutale’s Christmas lunch and dinner, and dive into winter fun at the SnowCastle Winter Park, open every day from morning until evening.
The Arctic experience continues aboard Icebreaker Arktis. On its three-hour cruise, you can walk on the frozen sea and float safely in icy water wearing a survival suit. The adventure is topped off with optional extras such as a lunch buffet at the SnowCastle restaurant and entry to the exhibitions.

Linnunradan Tila once again delights visitors with its alpacas and Christmas café. Open throughout December, the café serves warm drinks and sweet treats in a charming rural setting. Winter magic can also be enjoyed year-round with alpaca walks.

Oulu is known as the traditional Tierna City: the tierna season begins in early November and continues all the way until Christmas Eve. From November onwards, Oulu’s event calendar is filled with festive Christmas events!
This year, Oulu has put even more emphasis on creating a magical holiday atmosphere: Rotuaari transforms into a Christmas forest, the Tiernapojat perform in the city centre, and Christmas in Pikisaari is celebrated at the Sailor’s Home Museum. In addition to the many tierna-season events, visitors can immerse themselves in the spirit at the traditional Tierna Market, which is being renewed and expanded this year.
