Taina Orvokki Culley: "The Third Dimension of the Wall" Art Exhibition

The Third Dimension of the Wall will be on display at Praati, located in the heart of Raahe, from 4–28 August. This captivating and multidimensional exhibition showcases the latest works of Alpua-based artist Taina Orvokki Culley.

True to its title, the exhibition features richly textured paintings in which Culley pushes beyond the traditional boundaries of painting by quite literally introducing a third dimension to the surface. Alongside acrylic paint, raised layers of materials bring the canvases to life, including sand, feathers, pages from old damaged books, and leftover strips of fabric and reindeer leather.

“I create my art very intuitively, in a meditative state of flow or inspired by dreams and visions. There is enough sorrow in the world, so I want my work to convey positivity, humour, and a childlike sense of wonder,” Culley explains.

Culley’s artistic inspiration is rooted in nature, Finnish mysticism, and prehistoric history and culture. Her colour palette is drawn directly from the natural world, while the balanced compositions of her works reflect her earlier studies in floristry and photography. In addition to visual art, Culley expresses her creativity by designing unique artistic clothing and accessories made from recycled materials.

The exhibition is part of the official Oulu2026 European Capital of Culture programme.
