Utajärvi Local History Museum

The Museum of Local History and Culture of Utajärvi is located in a former granary.

In the museum you can find devices used in housekeeping, farming and forest work. The items are from the time before the World Wars, when livelihood was based on forestry, hunting, fishing and farming. Nearly everything was made by hand, and the skills passed on from one generation to the next.

Near the museum you can also find a rapids boat made according to the early 20th century design. This kind of boat was used to transport people on the river Oulujoki until the year 1944. There is also an old storehouse from the old school of Juorkuna in which school kids stored their skis during the schooldays. The Museum of Local History and Culture is maintained by the Utajärven Kotiseutuyhdistys ry association.

The museum is open during Local History Week of Utajärvi (July) and at other times by agreement. For more information, please contact Anna-Liisa Valtanen, chairman of Kotiseutuyhdistys ry, tel. + 358 45 8554800.

Utajärvi Local History Museum is one of Rokua Geopark’s cultural attractions.
