Oulu – The Most Eventful Summer of All Time
As Oulu and its surrounding region gear up for the European Capital of Culture year in 2026, the city is celebrating its most eventful summer yet! In addition to major festivals like Qstock, Oulu and nearby areas host numerous smaller festivals and events that are part of the Oulu2026 Capital of Culture program.
In the summer, Oulu comes alive with at least one event happening every single day. Oulun puistopiknikit is a series of free, low-threshold picnic events held in parks around the city. The Viva La Kesäkatu concerts at the Valkea Shopping Center’s summer street are also open to all and free of charge. In nearby Kempele, the Pirilänpuisto event tent offers cheerful summer theatre and atmospheric live music performances.
Live music can also be enjoyed at downtown pubs and terraces such as Mallassauna, Seelari in Hietasaari, and Jumpru Pub.
Fans of football can catch top-tier Finnish league matches at Raatti Stadium, where AC Oulu plays in the Veikkausliiga. Between May and August, more than 10 home games will be hosted at the stadium.
Food lovers should save the date August 14 for the much-anticipated Kesäillan kattaus (“Summer Evening Feast”).
The world-famous Air Guitar World Championships will take place at Rotuaari from August 20–22. The event is part of the Oulun juhlaviikot (Oulu Festival Weeks), held this year from July 31 to August 30, 2024. Other events in the festival weeks include Elojazz, the Oulunsalo Soi chamber music festival, the Oulun Muusajuhlat literature and word arts festival, Oulun Taiteiden Yö (Night of the Arts), the Oulu Music Video Festival, and Flow Productions.

Best known for its ski resort, Syöte also offers unforgettable experiences in summer! The mountain biking trails of Syöte National Park provide stunning scenery and a variety of challenges. A fun and fast-paced hockey tournament played in sneakers on a rink at the foot of Iso-Syöte fell.
July 20: Ypykkä Metalfest – A heavy metal music event for fans of the genre.
August 2: Loisto Festarit – Music and summer festival vibes in Jonkku.

Experience a day of speed and excitement with the Happy Beach Asphalt Sprint and SM Häppäri. Expect intense competition, tight seconds, and unforgettable motorsport action on the asphalt!
Raahe – Echoes of History and Cultural Events
Archipelago cruises in Raahe begin in summer, offering a chance to explore the beautiful islands just off the city’s coast. Wanha Raahe (Old Raahe) takes visitors on a time-traveling journey to the maritime world of the 1800s through guided walking tours.
The charming city of Raahe offers rich culture in a coastal setting. The Raahe Maritime Festival (Raahen Meripäivät) will take place on July 11–12 in the picturesque Museonranta harbor area.
On July 12, the Lampinsaari Festival will be held in the quaint village of Lampinsaari, especially around Gunnari Manor and Lampinsaari Pavilion with their scenic surroundings.
Raahe Rantajatsit (Beach Jazz Festival) brings people together for music by the sea during the last weekend of July, July 24–26.
On August 9, the Vihanti Bull Festival (Härkäjuhlat) features great food, live music from top performers including KEISKI & PNP and The Bilebändi, and the exciting Härkä Open II — a strongman competition to crown Vihanti’s Strongest.

Meri Oulu Summer Theatre presents the musical comedy “Pesänjako” (“The Inheritance”) and other performances at Pirilä Park in Kempele. Shows begin in July and continue until the end of August.
