So you’re about to see kites flying high above the ice all along the seaside, as snowkiting enthusiasts ride the wind on the ice. Spot these extreme sport enthusiasts in Oulu, Raahe or Kalajoki. In Kalajoki, arctic paddling is also a thing: what does paddling amongst floating ice, and a chance to spot a seal sunbathing sound like?
The local kids can’t wait for the freezing temperatures that turn the nearby sea, lake, ditch or even hayfield into a skating rink or skiing route. There’s no lack of well-maintained routes in any of the Pohjola route destinations, either.
