Making your way to Oulu and the Pohjola Route is easy by plane, train, car, or bus. Oulu Airport is the second busiest airport in Finland, with many Finnair flights from Helsinki arriving daily. Oulu also enjoys excellent international connections. Starting next year, Discover Airlines will continue operating direct flights from Frankfurt to Oulu, with two weekly services year-round on Mondays and Saturdays. During the high season, from the end of May until the end of September, a third weekly flight is added on Fridays, following a triangle route Frankfurt–Oulu–Kittilä–Frankfurt.
Starting in March 2026, AirBaltic will also begin direct scheduled flights between Riga and Oulu, with services operating five days a week from 29 March until the end of October 2026.
In addition to air travel, Oulu is well connected by rail. Trains from both the south and the north arrive in the area, with several daily connections to Oulu, Kempele, Kemi, and the Rokua Geopark area. For travelers coming from closer regions, buses provide an ideal option, with routes reaching Oulu from nearly everywhere in Finland in a short time.
Once in Oulu, getting around the region is simple. The Pohjola Route can be explored by rental car, taxi, charter coach, bicycle, or local bus. Some destinations along the route are also accessible by Oulu’s public transport, making it convenient for visitors to discover the area’s many highlights.
