"Together" artwork, Muhos
The new Kirkkosaari bridge in Muhos is decorated with artwork inspired by local nature.
Together is an artwork by visual artist Pia Hentunen and part of the Kirkkosaari bridge completed in 2022. The six works of art show the species of the Rokua Geopark area. The names of the species are explained in the glasses next to the works.
The title of the work suggests that we live together with other species in the area. Above all, the artist has chosen to include species that are not the most visible in nature. That’s why it doesn’t include, for example, birds and mammals.
The work includes species found in the Rokua Geopark area, such as the silver-barred sable, orange chocolate chip lichen and matsutake. Aquatic organisms include a pair of species, freshwater pearl mussel and brown trout, both of which are highly endangered. The work also describes invisible elements of the forest, i.e. mushroom mycelia.
In connection with each species, you can see a combination of letters that describes the degree of threat of the species. Some of the parts of the work have been realized together with locals in Muhos.
