Säräisniemi Local History Museum, Vaala
The Säräisniemi Local History Museum operates in the premises of the oldest school building of Säräisniemi. It is maintained by the Säräisniemi Museum and Homeland Association, founded in 1957.
The basic collection of the Local History Museum was compiled from various villages in Vaala in the late 1950s. Since then, the collections have been supplemented several times. The museum’s collections contain more than 3,500 objects in total. The collections are on display in permanent exhibitions and in rotating exhibitions that can be assembled separately.
The school building is from the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries. It was converted into a school in 1884. The Juusola windmill from the 1830s, the Säräisniemi grain warehouse from the 1860s and the Alila barn from the 1880s are also in the courtyard.
The museum is open to the public during the summer. Please check the opening hours on the Vaala municipality website.
Säräisniemi Local History Museum is one of Rokua Geopark’s cultural attractions.
