Rokua Geopark Time Travel exhibition in Muhos
The Time Travel exhibition at the Birch and the Star Cultural Center in Muhos tells the story of the birth of the Rokua UNESCO Global Geopark landscape, from the first stages of development of the bedrock to the last ice age, the creation of ridge formations and the spread of human settlement and biota in the region after the ice age.
In the Muhos exhibition, you can learn about the stories and tales set in the Oulujoki River Valley, the birth of the River Oulujoki and the geology of the river valley, as well as the history of human settlement. The actual main structure of the exhibition is formed by a cylinder-shaped timeline, which describes the moments of creation of key landscape features. Inside the cylinder, with the help of virtual glasses, you can also experience past landscapes, for example from the times of the ancient mountains and from the Stone Age.
The Time Travel exhibition can be found in every municipality in the Rokua Geopark area, in Muhos, Utajärvi and Vaala, where each of them focuses on their region’s special landscapes.
Please note that the Birch and the Star cultural center will be renovated in 2024. The renovation will be completed in the fall of 2024, when you can also visit the Time Travel exhibition again.
