Leppiniemi Residential Area, Muhos
The Leppiniemi residential area is located along the Oulujoki River, next to the Pyhäkoski power plant, about 7 kilometers from the municipality center of Muhos. The area was designed by architect Aarne Ervi.
The planning and construction of the area began in the 1940s, when the Oulujoki River was harnessed for hydropower use, and new residential areas for workers and their families were built along the river near the power plants. The area was completed in the early 1960s.
The residential area of Leppiniemi is a culturally and historically significant site. Most of the buildings in the area and its park-like milieu are protected and are currently privately owned.
On the nearby Lemmenpolku nature trail, which is one of the sites of Rokua Geopark, you can go hiking and at the same time get to know the history of the Pyhäkoski and Leppiniemi areas.
