Kolmen koputuksen kapakka - Pohjolan Rengastie

Three Knocks Tavern

As autumn evenings grow darker, the village halls of Siikajoki transform into atmospheric speakeasies as four actors bring to life characters inspired by local moonshine stories. Three Knocks Tavern is an immersive community theatre performance that takes audiences into the untold local stories of the Prohibition era, accompanied by music.

Siikajoki has a significant history connected to the smuggling of illicit alcohol, a history that has rarely been discussed and has often been a source of shame. As the memories of those who lived through the era fade, these stories are also at risk of being forgotten. The performance combines music from the Prohibition period, scenes by Seidi Valtokari based on local events, and memories shared by local residents. This down-to-earth production sheds light on the reasons why fishermen, farmers, fathers, and mothers alike became involved in the moonshine trade. At the same time, it explores personal freedom, judgement, and crossing boundaries in Finland during the Prohibition era.
