A Relaxed Group Tour into Culture and Nature
– Two days and one night in the Liminka countryside –
This two-day group tour offers an unhurried introduction to the cultural heritage and natural landscapes of Liminka. The itinerary combines local food traditions, storytelling destinations, art, and one of Europe’s most important wetland areas.
Day 1 begins with arrival in Ala-Temmes and a traditional lunch at Pitojen Helmi, a cozy family-run restaurant where local cuisine is paired with stories from the past. In the afternoon, the group visits Liisanlinna, the northernmost wooden castle in Europe. A guided tour reveals the castle’s unique history, accompanied by campfire coffee in a warm, atmospheric setting. An optional ceramic workshop (70€ per person) is available for groups wishing to try hands-on creativity with a local artist.
Accommodation is at Park Hotel Liminka, a modern hotel located in the village center. The evening is free to enjoy the peaceful surroundings and summer scenery.
Day 2 starts with breakfast, followed by a guided walk through Old Liminka. The tour explores the area’s long history, artist homes, and cultural landmarks. From there, the journey continues to Alakestilä Arboretum, Finland’s third-oldest arboretum, set along the Liminka River.
The final destination is Liminganlahti Bay, one of Europe’s most significant bird wetlands. After lunch, guests visit the nature centre and birdwatching tower with a guide, learning about the area’s rich wildlife. Afternoon coffee concludes the tour before departure.
