From fells to the frozen sea

Feel free in the space of the icy shores of the Botnia Bay and the speed on the snowy slopes of the Syöte fell area.

Finland’s southernmost fell area Syöte is just a little trip away from the sea. In the winter time Syöte is extremely snow sure, so you can experience the Finnish winter with skis, snowboard, snowshoes or pulled by reindeer or huskies.

You can cross the frozen sea to island Hailuoto by ferry or, when the ice is thick enough, by car.  Either way, you will not forget that trip! For that, and many more reasons, Hailuoto is one of the best frozen sea destinations in Finland.

Liminka is known for its birds but the sea side destination is also a good place to be active on the frozen shores in the winter time, by example with mountain or fat bikes.

Combine activities on the frozen sea with the facilities of the city of Oulu. From Oulu you can easily make day trips to other winter destinations.

It’s easy to stay active in Kempele! There are many options on how to move in the winter. Just a short drive for the airport, Kempele is a handy pick.

Imagine walking in the great nothingness of the frozen sea. There’s no experience you can compare to that! Try it in Raahe, where you can also get to know what kind of a role the icy sea has played in the history of the area.

Kalajoki specializes in the shore life, not only in the summer but also when the sea is frozen. Skating on the ice of the Bothnia Bay is probably something you haven’t experienced. Try it in Kalajoki!
